Just the other day when I talked to afriseb we both thought it would be kind of funny if Apple not only launched a Gadget like the iTablet/iSlate (or whatever it will be called) but also would launch a whole platform with it. (which depending on the definition of “platform” would be typical for Apple) They definitely will launch some kind of platform with it to create and distribute content. But: What if Apple will make contracts with the big media outlets but also releases something similar to the iPhone-SDK (just simpler) wich will allow anyone to:
- create content like books and magazines and
- publish them via iTunes
- would also help to create/customize your own news”paper” by simply clicking your sources (which could be anything that is already out there: blogs, rss, flickr, video,….etc.)

That would definitely be a disruptive business-model, which is not uncommon for Apple either (iPod,…) And receiving cash from every party involved is not new to Apple either.
Of yourse then Steve Jobs and Apple would not be the promised Messiah for the Publishing Industry that they are hoping for.
